Longboards

Have you ever been walking around campus and seen those laid back longboaders? I know i have. I had wondered what made them ride there boads even though it was against school poilcy and it was only recently that i discovered why they did it when I rode a long board for the first time. The rush of wind in your hair as you glide seamlessly over the pavement, swerving around obstacles and enjoying a moment of pure ectasy with friends. I would like to see school policy change on the issue of longboarding. It has been banned because of injuries but i propose a way to limit the injuries while also giving students the freedom of longboarding. By making students purchase a license to longboard would generate revenue for the school while also pleasing the student body.

  1. It looks like the only argument is to make students get a license to generate revenue. Think of another reason one should be allowed to long board. Another point might be that it really isn't that different from biking.

  2. I like the idea, but I also agree with breton, you need more arguments. Some of those arguments could include outlining the difference between longboarding and skateboarding, because there is no doubt that they are grouped with skateboarders and the stereotype that comes with them, whether that stereotype is true or not. I like the revenue idea though, institutions usually like new ways to gain revenue.

  3. Just because studenst who use longboards will have license's doesnt mean that accident's wont happen. You will have to come up with an immensly persuaisive argument and you might even have to go into detail about your ideas about licensing so that you can actually convince those who write the policy to rewrite it in favor of longboards.

  4. This is a great topic to argue, but i agree, you need more arguments. you could use the argument that Bronco Mendenhall (head football coach of BYU) longboards. If he does it, it cant be THAT dangerous. You could also put in there, to make people feel safer, that longboarders have to pass the equivilent of a drivers test to be able to longboard on campus, because, you have to admit, it is a little difficult at first to master.

  5. Good topic, but just like other people have commented, one argument will not be enough. Another argument you could use is that longboarding is just as dangerous as riding a bike.

  6. Good topic, I can tell you feel passionately about this and will be willing and able to defend your position. You use great word choice and very strong imagery. It makes me want to go long boarding! You need more arguments.
